Million Dollar Secret: Finally, a Good Competition Show

By Brianna Alleva

Season two of the Netflix competition show has finally aired! Million Dollar Secret is a competition show in which one person has a million dollars in secret. The rest have to try to steal it, guess who it is, and try to eliminate them and each other. The last person remaining will have the million dollars already in their possession, in theory.

Season one of the show was a huge success, in my opinion. It was fun, kept me on the edge of my seat, and was interesting enough for me to watch the entire thing.

The biggest thing that set it apart from all other competition shows, however, was that the competitors, non celebrities, actually knew what they were doing!!

This was showcased on the first night when the group successfully got out the secret millionaire, on night one!

Here are a few other ways this season is full of smarties:

Where to Stream Reality Check: Million Dollar Secret

  • Netflix
  1. The decision by a few members to not vote out the millionaire and to keep them for their advantage

Kat (Who I believe is gonna be the winner) knows right away when Kaleb was the millionaire and decides to keep him in so he can protect her. Nick then also caught right away when Umeko with the intelligence analyst clue while Umeko took the money from Nick when she kept him in because she knew he was the millionaire! Cinema!

  1. Most players being really good at pointing out the millionaire’s agendas during the day

To the audience the agendas the millionaires have to complete in order to get an edge during elimination seem super obvious (Nick’s clothespin agenda). It is fun though when the other players catch it right away (in my opinion) I think the best catch was Nick catching Altie saying “ No cap” when the clue was “Keeping it Real”. So smart.

  1. Being able to actually hide things about themselves (professional poker player/ Intelligence for the Navy)

To be fair, players hide their real identities and facts about themselves during every competition show. I did feel like this cast did a good job of acting the part though, the part of someone who may not be as smart or as athletic or have the skills they need. This makes it interesting and fun to watch, especially the reveals when the audience is just as shocked.

The season is still airing with episode 7 premiering April 29th with the season finale presumably a week after. I am looking forward to more of the show and to see how the ending plays out. This season I am okay with any one smarty winning.
