Or maybe it is. Watching the US Open as a tennis fan, someone who is is trying to get decent at the sport, has been so fun and intense.

The Open started August 23rd and ended on Sunday, September 13th with the Mens Single Championship. What struck me the most about the US Open this year is that everyone was so respectful and mature, for the most part, with each other.

I am not super familiar with tennis. Whenever it is on during the Summer Olympics or other tournaments I always watch for a few minutes. This US Open however I was glued to my TV.

The US Open showcased the world’s best tennis players going head to head for long sets. For men, there are five sets and women three. Each set has 6 games and the winner needs to get to six and win by two. (From my understanding!)

What kept me watching was the athleticism of these players. These games are hard and neverending at times. They make it look so easy, its fun to watch.

So, can tennis be as popular as some other sports?

Maybe its a cultural thing or the fact that American’s are just less familiar with tennis as a sport to watch. Football is fall, hockey is winter and baseball is summer. Tennis fits in there somewhere but unsure where.

Also, sometimes the matches get monotonous and hard to stay focused on. The games that got good, where towards the end, the semifinals and finals. The stacks where higher and emotions can be seen more.

Overall, I feel like if we were able to see tennis more of TV, audiences would enjoy it.

Tennis may not be the most fast paced, adrenaline filled game to watch but the traditions, the respect, the culture behind all the due, is something to behold.

Luxury auto, financial services, and athletic brands are already running against tennis. If your buyers are adults 25-54 and they’re watching across ESPN, Hulu, and YouTube TV, book a strategy call and we’ll map where your budget fits.
