The story of the Green Lantern is probably the one that I know the least about from DC Comics. There have been plenty of movies and TV shows, but the story never really drew me in.
Granted, the only reason I started watching Lanterns wasn’t for the story, but for the actors. Kyle Chandler in particular; I believe he is a great actor and plays his roles well.
Lanterns follows the intergalactic cop, Hal Jordan, and his recruit, John Steward. Together they investigate a murder in a small town that is connected to aliens and also Jordan himself.
*SPOILER* The first episode ends with a flash-forward of Jordan murdered in the same small town.
I was surprised how interested I was in this show. It is just the right amount of mystery, mind games, and drama that keeps me on the edge of my seat.

The show is in its first season and is only 3-4 episodes in; there is a lot of storyline left to explore. Right now, I am enjoying the pace and the twists, including the villain shown in the latest episode, Sinestro.
Everything would be more dramatic and satisfying if I were still familiar with the Green Lantern story; everything is enjoyable to watch.
A few things I would like to see more in the coming episodes, maybe even seasons, include more drama and more characters.
I feel like every comic book hero has a love interest, which I am sure is happening or being set up somehow—also, more villains and more friends—just more people in general—make things more interesting.
I also really like the actor who plays John Stewart, Aaron Pierre. The two main characters together play off each other really well.
Overall, I am excited to learn about this story and to see where the producers are taking this version. Sort of similar in vibes to True Detective, one of the greats,s and Friday Night Lights (just because of Chandler and the multiple scenes at a football field). The show has a lot of potential and is well acted.
Being able not to predict where the story is going is also refreshing for a change and keeps me on the edge of my seat.
