This season of Survivor, the long-running competition show, has decided to play a “different” kind of game. They are calling it the idea of an “open era” or that anything is on the table: all twists, turns, challenges, etc.
Over 51 seasons, there have been plenty of popular, interesting twists and plenty that audiences did not like. So, that begs the question: what twists do we really want to see on 51, or what twists should they absolutely put in to make a good show?

Right away, the biggest one I can think of is the tribe swap. Starting in season three, variations of this have been done throughout seasons. Players “drop their buffs” and join different groups midway through the game. I think it would be interesting to switch it up differently, like maybe girls vs. boys or old vs. young, to really throw everyone for a loop.

Second one is instant eliminations. I am honestly surprised this doesn’t happen more often. Whether it’s tribal council right after the challenge or just everyone votes right then same group or no. This twist keeps everyone on their toes and doesn’t give players time to scheme. I like it.

Third, return players, or maybe even add new players to the season as time goes on. You risk audiences saying that the person who started mid-season does not deserve to win, but you can play with this. Maybe have certain players sit out and have stand-ins play as them.

If the point is to keep it interesting, let’s think outside the box.
Fourth, just make everyone a juror. No more playing to the jury because the jury is literally everyone on the show. I like this because then the winner is truly random until the last minute.

Last and certainly least (according to popular opinion?) fire making. I personally like this twist and think it should be on every season. It gives things up to chance a little more while also being predictable enough for everyone to prepare for.

P.S. Actually, lastly, they better have the Survivor auction!
