Where should Jury Duty base their show next?

Where should Jury Duty base their show next?

By Brianna Alleva

Back in 2023, a show that was equal parts ingenious and funny premiered: Jury Duty.

The concept was a group of people going to jury duty, getting selected, and sitting in a trial. Everyone in the group was acting except for one person.

The show was original, had a hilarious cast of characters,s and they picked the perfect unknowing participant. The fact that it was in a government building in LA also added to the realism, and a random celebrity made perfect sense.

Also, the scenario of a bunch of random people stuck together for jury duty was just too common to be a ruse, and that’s what made it work.

When season two was announced, I was equal parts excited and nervous. I think the premise of the show is great, but if we do it again, it has to be very different; otherwise, it won’t work.

The end of the show redeemed itself in my opinion because I genuinely believed the “hero”, or the person who did not know it was all an act, was surprised. More than that, he was respectful and still super happy about the experience.

After the show has ended, naturally, you start to think if it will be renewed for another season and, for this show in particular, whether another season is even possible. You would have to find a situation unique enough to be manipulated and common enough to plan the action.

Thinking about all these things, here are some scenarios I think would make a great third season of Jury Duty!

5. A college or higher education institute

I think this would be a funny place to create the next fake Jury Duty show. You could have situations involving students or parents, sports, professors, etc. Also, the prospect of the hero teaching or presenting would be entertaining.

4. A car dealership

Think of all the “customers” and crazy sales tactics you would come up with. Also, this is easy for a new person to learn on the spot. A car dealership is also interesting enough to keep the audience’s attention.

3. A grocery store

Think Superstore on NBC. Trying to get a hero to work at a grocery store may be difficult, but I could think of a bunch of funny scenarios and people one could encounter.

2. A restaurant

Like grocery stores, restaurants would be the perfect places for an unsuspecting person to meet interesting characters. Plus, the availability of random people at all times would make for good television.

1. A City Hall

I feel like one of the reasons season 1 of Jury Duty was so good was because of how believable or unbelievable it would be to have a show in a government building. This would be the best thing. Think Parks & Rec, the jokes write themselves.
